Getting Started

Selecting the fixtures - part two

We know that selecting the fixtures and fittings is a major part of planning your new bathroom. In the last edition, we featured a handy summary of the key things you need to know about toilets, tapware and basins, to ensure that you’re speaking the same language as your plumber, builder or architect. This time, the focus is baths and showers.

For comprehensive descriptions just click on the highlighted product type, or simply visit your local Reece showroom where a friendly showroom consultant will ensure you are in the know.

Baths
Baths have certainly made a splash in recent years, having become the dramatic focal point of a bathroom. Luxurious freestanding and island setting baths have taken centre stage and can often be found adorned with a beautiful chandelier or statement lighting. If you’re pushed for space, or planning a family bathroom, there is always the ever-popular wall setting bath, which is neatly set into a frame against a wall. And let’s not forget spa baths, which are ideal for those wanting to create a retreat in the home.

Showers
Selecting the ideal style of shower for your bathroom will often be determined by space. In recent years the wet room style shower has emerged as a popular choice, particularly for those wanting to create an open-plan style bathroom. A wet room can be completely open, or partially sectioned off with a wall or shower screen.

Shower screens come in a variety of styles, but if you can’t find the exact size you want, you can also have one made to measure. For those who prefer an enclosed showering experience, you will be pleased to hear that shower cubicles are still widely available, with a large selection of styles at varying prices.

Showerheads
With much of Australia living through a severe drought, there has never been a more important time to install a water-efficient showerhead. Thankfully, innovative technology is being used to create a pleasurable showering experience while using less water, meaning we can enjoy our beloved shower without a guilty conscious. Hansgrohe, Nikles and Methven are leading the way when it comes to innovative - and indulgent - showerheads. Hand showers, hi-rise, horizontal arm and rose, ceiling, rail and overhead are all terms that you will come across as you search for your new showerhead. If it is a family bathroom you are planning, you may opt for a single or twin rail shower, as the height adjustability guarantees flexibility. If complete body coverage is a priority, a ceiling mounted shower or horizontal arm is ideal. And if space is a concern, look out for a hi-rise or overhead shower.

So there you have it, a complete overview of fixtures and fittings. We wish you luck as you embark on your bathroom-planning journey!
