Getting Started

Creating your perfect bathroom space

Planning your dream bathroom should be an exciting time. Getting the best out of your bathroom depends on who works on it, and how you work with them. Choosing the right architect, plumber and builder is an important process. By developing your bathroom in consultation with experts, you’re more likely to avoid potential problems.

Finding the right professionals
You can’t beat word of mouth. Ask friends and family. Remember that friend’s bathroom you were admiring last year? Now is the time to ask them for their recommendations. And give the architect, plumber or builder a call. You’ll soon discover whether or not they’re on your wavelength. Ask to see examples of their work, and always get a quote before the work starts. Don't be afraid to ask questions.

Choosing the professionals
Recommendations from friends and family are helpful, but make sure the professionals you use are properly licensed. Contact the relevant professional bodies to check. If you use an unregistered plumber or builder and something goes wrong you could be left high and dry. Remember, “Don’t risk it, use a licensed plumber.”

Working with the professionals
The bathroom might be where you go to be alone, but creating the perfect bathroom is all about communication. Talk to your architect, plumber and builder. Discuss your ideas. And your budget. There are ways of making sure you stick to your budget. Building or renovating isn’t just about the end result. It’s a creative process that should also be thoroughly enjoyable, and if everyone contributes, the end result should be even better than what you were hoping for.

Where to go for inspiration
Even before you talk to a designer or architect, it’s helpful to start with a general idea of what you’re looking for. Check out our bathroom life™ stores for inspiration. Or our Bathroom Planner, which allows you to plan your bathroom to scale. It’s at www.reece.com.au/bathrooms/planner
