Jan - 2007 Dripline Accessories

With the big rush on dripline, we thought it would be worth running a bit of a refresher on the accessories that should be part of every professional drip irrigation system:

Filters
To remove particles and debris that could build up and clog the drippers.

Tech Filter
Generally for subsurface irrigation, tech filters distribute a chemical called Treflan around the system to prevent root intrusion. Cartridges need to be replaced periodically.

Pressure Reducing Valve
Reduces pressure from the tap down to a level that is suitable for drip irrigation (under 300 kPa). PRV’s are available in pre-set or adjustable models.

Air Release Valve / Vacuum Breaker
Allows air in the pipework to escape, preventing damage to dripline and fittings. Should be installed at the highest point in the drip system.

Auto Flush Valve
Auto flush valves discharge approximately four litres of water every irrigation cycle to flush out rubbish and debris that has entered the system to prevent it from blocking drippers. The flush valve should be installed at the lowest point of the dripline system.

Indicator Flag
An indicator flag is an optional accessory that pops up when a drip system is running. This provides an easy visual reference as to whether the system is in operation because drip is much harder to see than a sprinkler or spray system.
