Take Heart
Heart disease is the leading cause of death
in Australia.
It kills one Australian every ten minutes, well over 52,000 a year, more men than women. It’s caused by fatty deposits building up on the lining of the walls of arteries around the heart.
Risk factors include:
- High cholesterol
- High blood pressure
- Smoking
- Diabetes
- Obesity
- No exercise
- Depression, social isolation or lack of support
- A family history of premature heart disease
As you age the risk gets higher, which is why it’s so important to follow some good lifestyle habits.
Here are a few steps you can take to minimise
your risk:
- Be physically active
- Maintain a healthy weight
- Don’t smoke
- Control your blood pressure
- Have a healthy eating plan
