TOTAL MARKET RECALL OF ALL ROTHENBERGER MAP/PRO GAS CYLINDERS

All ROTHENBERGER branded Map/Pro Gas Cylinders in your possession that were purchased from Reece should immediately be returned to your local Reece branch. Other brands will not be accepted and must be directed back to your original point of purchase.

Why the recall? What’s the issue with the product?
Rothenberger is voluntarily recalling its MAP-Pro, Propylene and MAPP cylinders due to a quality issue with the valve. There are no known incidents of fire or injury associated with this issue. New cylinders in customers’ inventory that have never had a torch attached will not leak due to this issue when stored, transported or moved. Rothenberger is undertaking this voluntary recall out of an abundance of caution.

What products are affected?
6802522 - R/BERG MAP/PRO GAS CYLINDER 400G
7705475 - ROTHENBERGER SUPER FIRE 3 HOTBOX

What if it’s – a totally new cylinder that’s NOT yet used? (i.e. a torch has NOT yet been screwed on)
If it’s a new cylinder, where a brazing/hand torch has not yet been screwed onto the cylinder and therefore not yet activated the cylinders are safe – but they should still be immediately recalled & returned to the point of purchase for a refund. New cylinders in customers’ inventory that have never had a torch attached will not leak due to this issue when stored, transported or moved.

What if it’s – a partly used cylinder that HAS been partly used? (i.e. a torch has been screwed on)
After a hand/brazing torch is removed from the cylinder, some of the cylinder valves may be slow to shut-off. You can easily identify a leaky cylinder by smell or by bubble test with leak detection spray over the top of the valve.

If it’s a partially used or active cylinder where a brazing/hand torch has been fitted and a leak is evident – immediately vent the remaining gas outside in a well-ventilated remote area in accordance with safety procedures as per the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet), Australian Standards (AS 4839-2001) and all other relevant industry standards. It is also recommended to wear appropriate personal protection equipment (PPE) such as gloves & safety glasses.

Note: Reece request that the venting of the cylinder is completed by a plumber (not a Reece staff member)

Please refer to all Australian Standards and Material Safety Data Sheet which explain best practice of handling Map and other cylinders, as well as advice on the cylinder label.

New Stocks
Reece’s advice from the supplier Rothenberger & Worthington Cylinders USA, the original manufacturer, indicates there will be some inevitable stock delays, but Reece / Rothenberger are on track to have new stocks on hand by the end of February. All other distributors of this type of Map/Pro Cylinder are in the same position.
