May - 2007 Smoking bans in pubs, clubs and hotels
Most Australian states are banning indoor smoking in hotels, pubs and clubs in 2006-07. While some venues will be totally smoke free some have seen the need to create a suitable outdoor area for patrons to smoke without exiting the venue.
In some of the cooler states there is a necessity for heating to be installed to keep patrons warm and happy during the winter months. This provides an opportunity for anyone working in the HVAC-R industry to call on previous jobs done in pubs, clubs or hotels to offer a plan for climate control in the outdoor area.
Many pubs are installing permanent outdoor bars. For those working in refrigeration this presents an opportunity for you to fit out their beer taps and bar fridges.
Do some research by visiting pubs in your area (for business purposes of course) and see if they are ready for the changes.
- Do they have an outdoor area for smoking?
- Will it require heating in winter?
- Are the doors going to be left open to the outdoor area and will this affect their air conditioning inside?
- Have the considered putting a bar outside that requires refrigerated systems?
