"My inspiration came from a bathroom created by architect Eduardo Villa in Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Featured in the Jan/Feb 2013 issue of Real Living, the bathroom has a breathtaking ocean view. I loved the bathroom’s strength and simplicity.
The owners obviously had a big budget and a lush space, I wanted Eduardo to incorporate the beautiful aesthetic into my bathroom, while keeping my beach cottage style. Eduardo selected a ‘nearly black’ stone floor with a creamy vein running through it. This works beautifully with the stark white bath, basin and toilet. My favourite pieces are the Alape Metaphor basin and fabulous taps.
I wouldn't have chosen black walls, but on seeing Eduardo’s moodboard - realised they’re a must. I love the “Palm Beach Black” timber stain and am thrilled he chose a lining board for the interior walls to add character. Eduardo snuck in a row of windows, to allow morning light to fill the space."
"Sharing a busy time during a lunch break with our client, we got to discuss a part of the home which we sometimes forget can be treated as our little oasis.
The owners relaxed style, the home location (Palmy) and her love for a calm environment were the key points of inspiration.
Based on being given the small floor plan of her existing bathroom we wanted to maximise this bathroom and create a handsome and dark space.
The accents of light and white can be seen in the selection of the Kado Lure Freestanding Oval Bath and the Alape Metaphor basin. All the other selected fittings have a chrome finish.
In terms of the materials and textures, we went for timber, natural stone and an old small vintage chandelier to give a patterned glow in the ceiling when you are enjoying a well deserved bath."
