We met with Guy and Jules Sebastian to explore their recently completed modern, industrial home in Maroubra, Sydney.
Designed by Joe Snell of Studio Snell, the beach-side home is a private sanctuary for the growing family of four, with a secluded parents’ retreat and a family bathroom that’s built to grow with their little ones.
The master ensuite and main bathroom are a brilliant lesson in how to create separate adults’ and children’s spaces, meeting the needs of the whole family.
The stunning ensuite acts as the parents’ wing of the home, providing a separate area for much-needed R&R for the busy duo. As Jules tells us, they wanted to create a relaxing oasis, which they’ve certainly achieved with the luxurious fixtures and brightness through natural light.
With the separate his and her’s basins - as well as plenty of room for Guy’s grooming products - the bathroom is the perfect retreat for the couple, a space to take a breather from their busy schedules. Both Guy and Jules have their own favourite space within this oasis - for Jules it’s the statement central Kaldawei Pure Bath primed for soaking, and for Guy it’s the overhead shower, both spaces for pure relaxation in the bathroom.
When it came to selecting the right products for their private retreat, Reece was the clear choice for Jules: “I loved working with Reece because they all know their stuff. We had a definite aesthetic in mind that we wanted and they knew exactly what to show us.”
In the kids’ bathroom, timeless functionality and appeal were essential. The couple wanted a space that their children, 5 and 7, would be able to grow into. This meant avoiding an overly childish feel, opting for hardware that suited the overall look of the house, but that was user-friendly at any age.
To suit the growing children, Jules and Guy opted for an inset bath, an essential for bathing young ones. The bathroom features both a LAUFEN Pro A Semi Recessed Basin and LAUFEN Palomba Close Coupled Toilet Suite, embodying timeless design with rounded edges that are soft to touch, a safe selection for children.
The downstairs powder room delights as a feature bathroom to service guests in the home. Diverse geometric tiles bring the room to life, adding extra depth to the petite space. The feature of the bathroom is undoubtedly the Alape Freestanding Washstand, standing tall and strong in the middle of the room.
When it comes to your own bathroom renovation, Jules offers a great breakdown of the process: “Get a good idea of the materials you want to use, do your research, work with great suppliers like Reece and have a clear understanding of what you want.” By coming prepared with your desired look and feel in mind, your Reece consultants will be able to guide you towards your perfect bathroom even quicker.
