A Guide to Toilets Around the World
1 October 2013Co-founded by Matt Damon and Gary White, Water.org is a nonprofit organization that works to highlight, educate and develop solutions to provide safe water and the dignity of a toilet for those communities that lack safe water and sanitation.
Their amazing work has helped to transform hundreds of communities in Africa, South Asia and Central America by providing access to safe water and sanitation.
Water.org recently developed what they call ‘A toilet field guide’ which is an interesting look at the different types of toilet systems used throughout the world, looking at the advantages and disadvantages of each system.
The water and sanitation problem in the developing world is far too big for charity alone. That’s why water.org is looking to the water sector for new solutions, new financing models, greater transparency and real partnerships to create lasting change.
As we know toilets come in all shapes and sizes. So if you’d like to take a tour of some of the toilets that can keep you healthy, make you sick, create compost for your garden, and even allow you to “go” in space, visit: water.org/toiletday/fieldguide
