The Future of the Humble Manhole

2 June 2014

There are now safer and more efficient options to traditional manhole methods available at Reece Civil.

In the past, inspection points have been constructed entirely with concrete poured on site – a process that takes a great deal of time and skill. We’re starting to see a shift towards a preference for pre-cast concrete and PVC manhole products. This is not surprising considering the obvious financial and safety benefits.

According to the Australian Construction Industry Forum, using precast concrete products is a better choice than pouring your own for a number of reasons: they’re quicker and safer to install, made in factory controlled environments, there’s less noise, dust and waste, and best of all they’re cheaper.

While prefab concrete is certainly popular at present, innovative contractors are moving towards plastic alternatives such as the Sewerpro, Stormpro and Amyroo products. Why? Because they’re even lighter, stronger, more cost effective (as they’re even cheaper to buy, install and transport) and ensure better OHS outcomes for construction and maintenance workers.
