Godzilla El Niño27 October 2015
The monster summer season is coming our way!
Australia has officially entered what is being called a Godzilla El Niño and we’re already feeling the effects! Southern states such as Victoria and New South Wales are experiencing an unusually early start to the bushfire season, not to mention all the added side-effects predicted for this monster summer season.
So what does El Niño mean for you and your customers?
The weather pattern caused by El Niño triggers a heat build-up in the centre of Australia that pushes south, bringing higher temperatures and with this, hotter days and below-average rainfall. As Godzilla El Niño continues we can expect:
- higher temperatures
- decreased rainfall
- less cloud cover
- extreme heat waves
- periods of drought
- increased fire danger
With little to no rainfall forecast for November, and the summer months still ahead of us, now is the time to help your customers get prepared. And with water storages set to decrease, conserving water will become a top priority.
Before we start to feel the full effects of El Niño, make sure your customers are maximising their water efficiencies inside the house as well. Here are four great places to start:
- Repair any leaking pipes or taps, install water-efficient nozzles and showerheads and check all plumbing and pumps.
- Review and suggest insulating pipes to reduce heat loss and protect them from breakage.
- Conduct a water audit to ensure that water and energy efficient appliances are being used throughout the home.
- Consider installing a rainwater tank, to maximise rainfall collection and assist with water usage inside and outside the home.
