Tradie Start - The Tinder for Tradies

24 September 2015

Finding the perfect match for apprentices, tradies and potential employers isn’t always an easy task - especially for those starting out in the industry who haven’t established many connections.

Two Victorian builders have come up with a convenient solution to fix this problem. Matchmaking duo, Sam Langford Jones and Jarrod Plymin, saw a gap in the market after being approached several times by young, enthusiastic apprentices looking for work.

Through their own network of trade businesses, they knew of many companies finding it difficult to find apprentices. And so the idea of website and app Tradie Start was borne, as a way to make it easier for both parties to connect.

Jarrod describes Tradie Smart as similar to a dating website or Tinder.

“You set up a profile and seek those who have similar interests. It’s a great way to establish a strong working relationship from the start,” said Jarrod.

“Generally, most tradies network through word of mouth. This can be difficult for apprentices who don’t have any contacts in the industry yet.”

“With the internet being the main way people seek out information and network these days, we decided to create a user-friendly and convenient website and app which makes it even easier for tradies to find their perfect match.”

The website, which launched in August, is currently matchmaking Victorian customers, but Sam and Jarrod are looking to roll it out nationwide in the near future.
