Back to Work Queensland Program

3 August 2017

Are you eligible for the Back to Work Program?

Currently in Queensland, there are two programs running with the goal of supporting employers in getting employees into the workforce. These two programs are:

  • Back to Work South East Queensland
  • Back to Work Regional Employer Support Payment

This means there's a fantastic opportunity for you to get yourself a bit of extra funding, simply by taking on a long term unemployed, or young jobseeker!

Back to Work South East Queensland

From July 1st, the Queensland Government's Back to Work South East Queensland program will provide $27.5 million in support for employers who hire a long-term unemployed or young unemployed jobseeker in the SE Queensland region. The program applies to eligible jobs mainly located in one of the following local government areas:

  • Brisbane
  • Redland
  • Logan
  • Gold Coast
  • Scenic Rim
  • Ipswich
  • Lockyer Valley
  • Somerset
  • Moreton Bay
  • Sunshine Coast
  • Noosa
  • Toowoomba

This scheme consists of Employer Support and Youth Boost Payments, and are available to those employers who meet all the eligibility criteria. Currently Employer Support payments are worth $15,000 for a jobseeker previously unemployed for 52 weeks or more, and Youth Boost Payments are worth $20,000 for a jobseeker previously unemployed (minimum 4 weeks) and aged between 15 and 24 years.

Eligible employers are those who have:

  • A good workplace safety and industrial relations record
  • A genuine commitment to ongoing employment of the employee

And, an eligible job must be ongoing (either paid full-time or part-time), and excludes casual or period employment as per the terms of the program.

Time limits and further rules apply. For full details, eligibility and how to apply, please visit: www.qld.gov.au/backtowork

Back to Work Regional Queensland

The Regional program is a two-year, $150 million initiative designed to give businesses the confidence to employ regional jobseekers. The following regions are covered by the Regional Employment Package:

  • Wide Bay Burnett
  • North Queensland
  • Far North Queensland
  • Mackay/Whitsunday
  • Central Queensland
  • North West Queensland
  • South West Queensland

From 1st July, each eligible employer has the opportunity to claim Employer Support Payments worth $10,000 for a jobseeker previously unemployed between four and 52 weeks, $15,000 for a jobseeker unemployed for 52 weeks or more, or Youth Boost Payments for a jobseeker previously unemployed (minimum four weeks) and aged between 15-24 years.

The criteria for eligible employers is similar to that of the South East Queensland program, and additional rules apply. For full details, eligibility, and how to apply, please visit: www.qld.gov.au/backtowork
