Sunny days ahead21 February 2017
Over the past 2 years a number of our new community activities have been particularly warmly received by our customers and staff. Through the Reece Grant we have found a valuable way to support our customers doing great things for the community. This year we have made self-sustainability a particular focus and our latest initiative is to install solar power panels in a number of Reece sites.
One of the great things about Australia is our constant stream of brilliant sunshine. And today more than ever, that sunshine is proving to be a cost effective source of energy for homeowners and businesses alike. Following a successful five-site pilot of solar panels, Reece is happy to report that we’ve now expanded the program to 35 sites across the country, including installations in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane. This represents around 700kw of panels in total.
The early trial demonstrated a large decrease in electricity usage – between 30% and 40% depending on store location – and an impressive reduction in our carbon footprint. The sites in the northern parts of Australia tend to deliver better performance because they receive more sunlight than the southern states.
This sustainability initiative is part of a long-term goal of having solar installed at every Reece-owned site nationally. Harnessing natural energy is an efficient way to power systems both in Australia and increasingly overseas. Over time this will allow Reece to significantly reduce our carbon footprint.
