A capacitor stores potential electrical energy for use later. It is a passive component with two conductors - positive and negative, which are insulated from each other. Capacitors help reduce voltage pulsation to certain electrical devices.

They are also useful to give certain appliances a kick-start, and to continue running, taking the pressure off electrical circuits.

The Motor Start Capacitors we sell are used to give that boost of electrical energy to get some motors running. Air conditioners are a great example. It can take a lot of electrical energy to get the motor running, a load that your house’s grid might not handle. So a start cap is used to give that motor a kick.

And then the start cap shuts down, replaced by run caps, to maintain the electrical load required to maintain the motor.

Reece has a wide range of capacitors, both starting and running, with differing charge hold abilities. Shop our website, and find the size you need for the job you’re working on.
