Beers inspired by walking in the Du Cane Range

Celebrating Tasmanian bush walking culture and outdoors. Du Cane Brewing was born by inspiration from travel and the outdoors. Located on beautiful Princes Square in the heart of Launceston, this family friendly Brewery and Dining Hall serves wood fired pizzas alongside their range of locally made beers and other local beverages.

Project Background

Du Cane Brewing needed a contractor to install their new brewing equipment. Andrew Mitchell from Mitchell Engineering and Maintenance was contacted who reviewed the scope of work. The project required supply and install of piping, installation of Brewery equipment, and levelling all the tanks and brewing vessels into position. To ensure success of the project, Andrew collaborated with GF Piping Systems Australia. Their expertise was sought for pipe dimensioning, design and take-off for the glycol manifold, including connections to the tanks and the chiller. As an operating hospitality venue, Du Cane prioritised cost, reliability, and efficient installation when selecting their glycol piping system.

Selected Technical Solution

As a 100% maintenance and corrosion-free system, COOL-FIT was chosen for the glycol distribution system to provide cooling to all the fermenters, bright beer tanks, and the cold liquid tank. The system was compared to a 50mm stainless steel tube, which would require on-site welding for the supply and return manifold. Additionally, it would need to be post-insulated with 50mm polystyrene and then covered with 9mm stainless steel cladding, increasing the price by $22,000. The engineering, and design for this project were carried out by Andrew from GF Piping Systems Australia, with support provided by Actrol Launceston throughout all phases of the project.

Improvements Achieved

Once the supported system was in place installation for COOL-FIT was quick and easy due to its 3-in-1 design. Thanks to his experience using COOL-FIT, Andrew kept the installation process in-house eliminating the need to outsource post-installation. Furthermore, being 50% lighter than stainless steel, COOL-FIT required no additional handling equipment. The glycol ring main was completed in less than 48 hours.

Du Cane currently offers 7 Core Range Beers including, Ascending Falling Mountain PILS, Hut to Hut walk PALE and Resting at Pinestone Creek MID, with a capacity of 180,000 litres. In April 2023, they will be launching their new Turning of Fagus HAZY PALE.
