50 Years of REHAU in Australia: The systems behind everyday life

A legacy of systems thinking

Since its founding in Germany in 1948, REHAU has built its reputation on precision, innovation, and a systems-thinking approach that connects every part of a project seamlessly. “Our philosophy is always about looking at the whole system, not just individual components,” says Christoph Schrader, Head of Engineering and Product Management, REHAU ANZ. “It’s why our solutions consistently deliver performance and reliability.”

In 1976, REHAU brought this philosophy to Australia, establishing a presence that would quietly but profoundly shape the country’s buildings and infrastructure. From the pipes that carry water to the channels that manage energy, REHAU’s systems are often behind the scenes – but essential to everyday life.

Innovation that supports Australians

Over five decades, REHAU’s flagship systems have become industry benchmarks. RAUTITAN was the first of REHAU’s plumbing products to arrive in Australia in 1991 and has since delivered durable, high‑performance water and gas piping solutions. AWASHAFT offers light manholes that are faster to install – and ensure no moulding, no curing, and no leaks. And the latest EDGE™ system represents the next step in smart, future-ready installations without expansion.

“REHAU continues to innovate in Australia because we see the difference it makes for installers and the end users,” Christoph notes. “Our systems are designed to make life easier, safer, and more efficient.”

This commitment is strengthened by local partnerships, including REHAU’s collaboration with Reece since 2003 which developed into an exclusive partnership in 2014. “Partnering with Reece allows us to ensure our systems are available, supported, and trusted by tradespeople nationwide,” Christoph adds.

Real-world impact

Australian case studies highlight the tangible benefits of REHAU solutions. Whether supporting residential developments, commercial projects, or complex infrastructure, REHAU products help installers deliver superior work, faster and with confidence. As Christoph puts it, “When tradespeople use our systems, they know they’re backed by decades of expertise and global R&D.”

Reece echoes this sentiment. “Reece and REHAU are both family-owned businesses with the same uncompromising commitment to quality, service, innovation and expertise,” says Ivan Buksa, Chief Merchandising Officer, Reece.

“Working with REHAU has allowed our customers to consistently provide the best products to Australians. The combination of German engineering and local support means every installation is smoother, faster, and more reliable.”

Looking ahead

As REHAU celebrates 50 years in Australia, the company is not looking backward. Instead, it’s laying the foundation for the next chapter in building and infrastructure innovation. With a focus on ongoing R&D, practical installer support, and trusted local partnerships, REHAU is positioned to continue shaping Australian construction for decades to come.

“Being part of this journey and seeing our systems in action across Australia is incredibly rewarding. Fifty years is just the beginning – we’re excited for what’s next.”
