Guest Ensuite Week on The Block gave us plenty to talk about, and we know many of you had questions about how to make the most of smaller bathroom spaces. Reece expert Michael is back to share his advice on layout, storage, heating, and how to create a space that feels bigger, brighter, and more functional. Here’s what you wanted to know.

1. How do I maximise storage in a guest ensuite?

“As seen on The Block this year, they’ve used a lot of great configurations within their cabinetry,” says Michael. “Whether it’s vanities or mirror cabinets, both are super practical and useful.” Look for vanities with a mix of doors and drawers to suit your storage needs. Adding a mirrored cabinet is a smart way to increase storage without taking up extra space. You can check out our range here. “Optimising space within the shower by adding niches and shelves is really good too,” Michael adds.

2. Heated towel rails or underfloor heating – which is better?

“In my opinion, both are fantastic options,” says Michael. “They bring you a lot of comfort within your space and, contrary to what you may believe, they’re both very inexpensive to run.” Heated towel rails offer quick warmth and keep towels dry, while underfloor heating provides consistent comfort throughout the room. If you’re working with a compact ensuite, combining both can elevate the experience without adding much to your energy bill.

3. How do I make a small bathroom feel bigger?

“The use of wall-hung furniture, whether it be vanities or toilets, will always create a feeling of a lot more space,” Michael explains. Wall-mounted fixtures free up floor space and make the room feel more open. Michael also recommends bringing in more light. “Mirror placement and skylights are always going to open that space up,” he says. Consider mirrored cabinets, reflective surfaces, and natural light sources to visually expand the room.

4. How do I best plan the layout of my bathroom?

“What I can recommend,” says Michael, “is booking a consultation with your Reece consultant or popping into your nearest showroom where we can help you.” Planning a layout involves more than just fitting everything in. It’s about creating flow, maximising functionality, and making the space feel balanced. Reece consultants can help you map out your space and choose products that work together seamlessly.
